When Annie met Manny

Cafe Rouge – Leamington

If you want to go somewhere for breakfast where your food is lukewarm, your eggs are overcooked and you are overcharged on the bill, this is the place to go.

Okay, so maybe that’s slightly harsh but last week we really wanted to go somewhere nice for breakfast, we decided to go to Cafe Rouge and everything seemed to go wrong.

The cafe appears to do what is a great deal for breakfast/brunch – a breakfast dish, a hot drink and a glass of fresh fruit juice. Manny decided on Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and I went for Croque Madame. To be fair, Manny’s was really nice but not very hot. Mine, on the other hand, was really disappointing – the egg appeared to have been cooked for about an hour and the whole dish was lukewarm. I asked for a new egg which came with no complaint but also no apologies. Unfortunately, because the dish was so cold I had eaten most of my food before the new egg was brought out so I didn’t get the thrill of letting the runny yolk drizzle into my sandwich. πŸ™

To top it all off, we were overcharged on our bill. We both work in service and we know mistakes can be made, but when the meal hasn’t been great and the service has been incredibly slow,Β it’s hard not to be annoyed.

Overall, it was a pretty disappointing outing and I wouldn’t recommend it. I know mistakes are unavoidable but there were no apologies and the staff weren’t particularly friendly. I don’t think either of us will be heading back anytime soon.
